A gentle wander to a local vineyard or an uphill hike to reach breathtaking views before the descent home…. Walk to secluded pools deep in the forest, across medieval bridges and on to castles and almost forgotten monasteries…..
The tiny hamlet of Simignano is the starting point. After passing the 'Cinta Senese' pigs, the path climbs steadily up through chestnut woods and on past the yellow Sienese marble quarries before opening out with magnificent views towards Chiusdino and beyond. We walk on and up to the church at 'Molli' from where the Duomo of Siena can be admired and then cease to climb any higher. From Molli, the path continues through the trees to the tiny hamlet of Tegoia and lunch at the 'Osteria La Montagnola' before the descent back to Simignano through the chestnut woods.
Casole d'Elsa
A half or full day's walking in the Berignone forest admiring breathtaking views of Casole, Monteguidi, Radicondoli, Volterra and San Gimignano. This is a walk that can be done in the height of the summer too, as the forest paths are all amply shaded from the sun. There are any number of routes through this enchanting and unspoilt forest. We may well chance upon wild boar, deer and birds of prey.
Walk and Tasting - Monteguidi Mensano
An uphill walk to a small, family run vineyard where the host will welcome us with his wines, his olive oil and local cold meats and cheeses. Down hill on the way home!
Monteguidi - The Maidens' Rock
A steep, rocky descent through the natural forest reserve of Berignone ending in an incredible gorge and the deep, crystal clear water of the river 'Cecina'. This walk merits a day's outing with a picnic lunch beside the river. .
Colle di Val d'Elsa
A one or two hour walk in open countryside and woodland, through an ancient hamlet, past an Etruscan tomb site and on to the sheep farm where it is possible to buy cheese on the way home.
